When Adele goes on stage she gets instant feedback on her performance from the audience. When Mohamed Salah takes to the football pitch he will get instant feedback from his manager at half time.
Matthew Syed in his kid’s book, “You are Awesome” uses the term “Be A Friend to Feedback”. He explains that if we shut ourselves away and practice a new skill quietly then how will we ever know if we are getting better?
To get really good at something you need to find your equivalent of the concert audience or the football manager. Somebody who cares about you enough to provide honest feedback on what are doing right and what needs to be done differently.
This could be a colleague, friend, manager, partner. Essentially it is someone who you trust to provide you with honest feedback.
