A great question to ask yourself is, are you flexing the colours for success or for survival? Are you flexing your colours to fit in or are you flexing your colours to be more influential and work in line with your values? What is it that you are doing to put on your game face? Remember, your game face is how you are responding intentionally to a situation which is your conscious persona. So for example, in this situation, by dialling up the blue, I’m thinking about being more considered and precise. So the flexing could be in response to your work culture expectations, the colour preference, gaps in the team, the needs of the people who report into you. There are all sorts of great reasons why you would flex. The question I always ask is though, are you flexing to fit in or are you flexing in line with your values? So for example, looking at this person here, if they are dialling up their blue energy because they have a team that values detail and precision, and the individual is just doing it to fit in, then that is probably very tiring. However, if they are dialling up the blue energy because by using it, it allows them to deliver a project in a more fun and effective way, then it probably ties in with their values because they lead with the yellow and red. There is no good or bad when it comes to dial up and dial down. However, there are good and bad feelings. If you are doing it to fit in, then it’s probably exhausting you. If you are doing it because it links to your values, then it’s probably okay. The range score is actually from minus 66 to plus 66, and most people are normally sitting in about the thirties. As I keep saying, there’s no right or wrong. It is about having the self-awareness to understand what is driving the flex and ensuring that it works for you. So take the time to ask yourself, are you flexing to fit in and survive, or are you flexing to be successful and live by your values?
